About Cleansing

You brush your teeth twice a day and likewise you should do the same with cleansing your face. The morning cleanse removes toxins and sebum from your skin which have accumulated overnight. The evening cleanse is responsible for removing the build up of oil, dirt, pollutants and products from the days activities. Cleansing is responsible for reducing congestion and boosts the effectiveness of our antioxidants and skin care routine.

Choosing the right cleanser is important. If you are going to use this twice daily it needs to be just right.

  • Dry/Dehydrated skin will benefit from a thicker more moisture rich cleanser
  • Oily and acne prone skin will benefit from a foaming deeper cleanse.
  • Normal skin will benefit from either.

A combination of cleansers may also be used. Something gentle in the mornings whilst something a little deeper cleaning may be used in the evenings.

Cleansing should make the skin feel clean, not super right or dry.

Our dermal clinicians and nurses can educate you on the best type of cleanser for your skin.

Cleansing Ingredients

  • Surfactants remove dirt, oil and debris from the skin.
  • Emollients are added to cleansers to limit the drying effect following cleansing.
  • Exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids (citric, glycolic or lactic acid) or beta hydroxy acid (salicyclic acid) are commonly added to cleansers to exfoliate the skin removing dead cells to reveal a brighter appearance. Some cleansers contain physical exfoliants (beeds or seeds) however these aren’t considered an effective exfoliant as these can cause trauma to the superficial layers to the skin.
  • Humectants help your skin retain hydration.
  • Antioxidants can sometimes be added to cleansers to boost skin hydration, brightening or cell turnover.

Influencing confident skin inside and out.
